Ruth has been doing crafts and crochet since she was four. By seventh grade she was selling her work at craft shows with her family. In eighth grade she discovered candle making, and has loved it ever since.
As happens to so many women, she married and started a family, so crafts and candles went to the back burner. When the fourth child turned one year, Ruth began crocheting and participating in craft shows again. Of course, when Scouts and band came into the picture, crafts naturally went to the back again, but only for a couple of years. After all, Mom needs something special for herself, too! Ruth has been active in crafting and showing every since, all the time adding more items and designs to her repertoire.
In 2005, Ruth came upon Natural Vegetable Soy Wax. She was looking for a way to earn some money while having fun with something she enjoyed. After reading some articles about the health hazards inherent in paraffin candles (particularly benzene and tolene, both determined by the EPA to be possible carcinogens) and the environmental, health, and economic benefits of using soy wax candles instead, she knew she had to give them a try. Natural vegetable soy wax burns cooler and longer than parafffin, so it is cost effective, cleans up with warm soap and water, so no are solvents and chemicals needed. Now Ruth is a firm believer that she can use the candles she loves without harming her family’s health, and can support American farmers in the process. After all, who wouldn’t want to “go green” with soy, a renewable resource, instead of continuing dependence on the oil conglomerates and large corporations for one’s candle habit? “Going green” with soy wax candles is something anyone can do, whether you want to be a happy customer, or learn to make and/or sell them yourself. Each candle is hand poured when you order, so it is made just for you. Live close, email me about refills.
Herb is the one that encouraged Ruth to start doing crafts shows again and helps where he can making candles, or help fill corn toss bags. Soy Candles N Crafts is truely a "Family Business".
Herb has always loved working with his hands creating and building. He is a "natural carpenter". Give him a piece of wood, and he can create something from it. His brain is always working, wheels turning, thinking of new ideas and items. He has re-built an Eagle Scout cabinet with his sons Boy Scout Troop, helps with Eagle projects, and helps his family in all of their endevors.
Want something made from wood, contact Herb, he might be able to create something special for you.
